Raul Martins – SAPOR Group Founder

Raul, one of the founders of SAPOR Group, started his financial career in 1972 with Standard Bank of South Africa and in 1980 moved over to Trust Bank where he specialized in Leasing, Instalment Sale Finance and Rentals.

In 1987 he left the bank and, together with Americo De Silva, started one of the first companies within the Group, SAPOR Finance (Pty) Ltd, where the main focus was assisting the Portuguese community in obtaining Finance. They later went on to form SAPOR Real Estates (Pty) Ltd and SAPOR Travel CC. In 2005 they partnered with Corey Badenhorst and Ronell du Preez to establish SAPOR Rentals (Pty) Ltd.

Raul was well known within the Portuguese Community for his charity work, he was one of the co-founders of Lusito School for Mentally Disabled Children and the South African Portuguese Chamber of Commerce (SAPCC). Raul served as an Executive Director of the Chamber, and remained active in the the Portuguese Old Age Home, Academia do Bacalhau and Redskins Golf Group, until his death in 2021.

Raul was a pillar of his community. His legacy will influence many generations to come.
